Though it might only seem like yesterday, it’s now three months since my last travel plan update, so I thought I’d share what you can expect in the upcoming weeks.
I’ll be travelling a lot more than usual over the next 6-8 weeks, so be sure to follow me on instagram and Twitter to keep up to date with where I am.
Harz Region, Germany
Earlier this year I was invited by Harz Tourismusverband to come and see this beautiful area of Northern Germany, and tomorrow is the day I set off!
I really can’t wait to explore another of Germany’s hidden gems. And if there’s one thing I love it’s a picturesque old town – and it looks like the Harz region has plenty on offer. We’ll be taking in the four UNESCO world heritage sites in the area via the towns of Hildesheim, Goslar, Quedlinburg and Eisleben.
Curiously, the trip will be taking me the closest I’ve been to Leipzig and Saxony since my summer there three years ago – somewhere I really need to go back to before long.
Work trip: destination unknown
In the first week of September, I will be heading on my mystery work trip: 406 of us are getting a chartered overnight train to an unknown location for five day break. Rumours are rife as to where we’re going: we had to give our head measurements and have been gifted with hiking boots. Most popular guesses so far are Austria or Switzerland, but I’m thinking Santander or Bilbao in Northern Spain…
(As it will be a work trip, I won’t be posting much on the blog, but if you’re curious as to where we end up, keep an eye on instagram!)
The Balkan tour: Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia
In a month’s time (almost to the day), I will be jetting off to the Balkans following an itinerary I’ve planned twice before for trips that had to be cancelled. Third time lucky, eh?
We will be flying from into Belgrade, when we will spend two days, before heading on to Sarajevo and Mostar in Bosnia. We’ll then cross the border into Croatia where we will travel up the Dalmatian coast, calling at Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar, with plenty of day trips and a bit of island hopping thrown in for good measure.
I am in the process of nailing down a more detailed itinerary, so if anyone has any tips on transport, day trips or things to do, please shout up!
Upcoming posts
In between my travels, I am hoping to keep up posting as regularly as possible. To whet your appetite, here are a few topics that are in the pipeline:
- Belgium: this country has a reputation in the UK of being really dull but I absolutely loved exploring Flanders on my road trip last month. I’ll be posting more on Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp soon.
- France’s military cemeteries: we also drove through the Somme region on our journeys and visited two British military cemeteries. I’m planning on writing a bit about this experience soon.
- Expat life: I’ve been back in Germany for almost five months now, so it’s about time to share what I like, loathe and miss living as an expat.
It’s going to be a busy few months so stay tuned!
Pretty busy and exciting weeks!! 😀 looking forward to reading the next posts! Safe travels!
Thank you – busy is definitely the right word!!!
